The agency designs individualized, needs-driven and family-focused treatment plans for foster children and their families while developing and facilitating a permanency plan for each child. As with our other programs, we have staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Department of Human Resources (DHR) to bring about successful outcomes for youth in the system of care which translates into safety and caring.

Specialized Foster Care

Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. has a contract for Specialized Foster Care and was awarded 49 slots in Washington, D.C.

When children cannot remain safely with their biological family, Specialized Family-Based Foster Family care is a supportive service to the family, as opposed to being a substitute parent for the child. Rather than treating foster care as a service to the child while someone else ”works” with the family, the role of the foster family is expanded to support the child’s family in fulfilling its responsibilities to the child. The foster family should perform much like the child’s extended family, enabling the birth family to retain as many routine parenting functions as possible while the child is in out-of home care. Therapeutic services are rendered within a family based setting in order to keep children within the mainstream of community life. Specialized care services are offered at Level I, Level II, and Level III depending on the needs of the child. There are many supports and services rendered to minimize disruption of placements and to promote safety and stability for the children.

Traditional Foster Care

Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. has a contract for Traditional Foster Care and was awarded 10 slots in Washington, D.C.

When children cannot remain safely with their biological family, Traditional Family-Based Foster Family care is a supportive service to the family, as opposed to being a substitute parent for the child. Rather than treating foster care as a service to the child while someone else ”works” with the family, the role of the foster family is expanded to support the child’s family in fulfilling its responsibilities to the child. Placement in foster care should not signal a separation of a child from essential family ties, from familiar surroundings, from school and friends, or from siblings. Therefore, not only must foster care providers value and support the child’s connections, they must be located in areas where those connections can be nurtured, namely in the child’s neighborhood or community.
