kenderick-hardyIn the last blog posted on Wednesday, December 4, we told you about the ceremony at Alabama State University (ASU) honoring Nadiyah and Abdul Seraaj’s service to the community and to ASU. During the ceremony, they were presented with a poetry performance by Kenderick Hardy, among other gifts. Hardy wrote the special poem for the two honorees, and we’d like to share it with you.

At this time of Thanksgiving, it’s thanks that we are giving to Ms. and Mr. Abdul Seraaj.

Your actions are far from a mirage of optical illusory good deeds.

You’ve blessed the Department of Theatre

And the College of Visual and Performing Arts with the overflow of blessings That have overflowed from entrepreneurial efforts that continue to flow Through the lives of those who are in need.

Not driven by greed, you family bleeds humility.

Selfless in giving, you both exude acts of philanthropy.

A man and woman with a vision who make provisions for family, community and friends …

You have a heart for the arts, and it starts with the heart.

To a bona-fide man and woman amongst men:

Abdul:                                                         Nadiyah:

A husband, a father!                                A wife, a mother!

A brother, a leader!                                 A sister, a leader!

A dreamer, a realist!                               A dreamer, a realist!

As the list extends to your wonderful children: Alia, Iman, Luqman, Warith, Intisar, Rasheed …

It takes belief to do something special.

It takes belief to sow good seeds and deeds.

It takes belief to act and not wait.

It takes belief to invest in people.

It takes belief to lead from the front.

It takes belief to inspire others.

It takes belief to be transparent and blunt.

It takes belief to believe that you matter.

It takes belief to know that your efforts aren’t in vain.

It takes belief to know that we really appreciate you.

Your friends, we will forever remain.

Around these parts, we are trained to find things that are pure and true.

Mr. and Ms. Seraaj, and Seraaj Family Homes, we certainly [have] realized

A true friend we have found in you.

Thank you for all that you have done.

Thank you for all that you do.

Thank you for your future efforts,

And know that  WE LOVE YOU!
