Therapeutic Foster Care
Seraaj Family Homes, Inc., has been a provider of Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) in Alabama since 1995. Currently, we have 121 statewide slots.
In TFC, the approach is to meet the individual physical, emotional and social needs of children and youths in a “substitute” family setting until the natural family can be reunited or a permanent placement through adoption can be arranged. The agency designs individualized, needs-driven and family-focused treatment plans for foster children and their families while developing and facilitating a permanency plan for each child. As with our other programs, we have staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Department of Human Resources (DHR) to bring about successful outcomes for youth in the system of care which translates into safety and caring.

Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. strongly believes that the foster family setting provides the best means for normalization, stability, and personal growth. Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. places these children with Family Teachers/Foster Parents who have been recruited specifically to work with children who present emotional and behavioral challenges. Specialized pre-service and on-going training is provided for Family Teachers/Foster Parents to assist them in providing a safe and nurturing home environment.

Therapeutic Family Based Foster Care
Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. was awarded a contract for Therapeutic Family Based Foster Care and was awarded 40 slots in Washington, D.C from 2005-2018.
When children cannot remain safely with their biological family, Therapeutic Family Based Foster Care is a supportive service to the family, as opposed to being a substitute parent for the child. Rather than treating foster care as a service to the child while someone else ”works” with the family, the role of the foster family is expanded to support the child’s family in fulfilling its responsibilities to the child. The foster family should perform much like the child’s extended family, enabling the birth family to retain as many routine parenting functions as possible while the child is in out-of home care. Therapeutic services are rendered within a family based setting in order to keep children within the mainstream of community life. Specialized care services are offered at Level I, Level II, and Level III depending on the needs of the child. There are many supports and services rendered to minimize disruption of placements and to promote safety and stability for the children.

Traditional Family Based Foster Care
Seraaj Family Homes, Inc. was awarded a contract for Traditional Foster Care and was awarded 35 slots in Washington, D.C from 2005-2018.
When children cannot remain safely with their biological family, Traditional Family-Based Foster Care is a supportive service to the family, as opposed to being a substitute parent for the child. Rather than treating foster care as a service to the child while someone else ”works” with the family, the role of the foster family is expanded to support the child’s family in fulfilling its responsibilities to the child. Placement in foster care should not signal a separation of a child from essential family ties, from familiar surroundings, from school and friends, or from siblings. Therefore, not only must foster care providers value and support the child’s connections, they must be located in areas where those connections can be nurtured, namely in the child’s neighborhood or community.
